Frances Canby Griscom (19 April 1879 – March 30, 1973), American amateur golfer, autographed vintage handwritten quotation (AQS). In 1900, Griscom won the U.S. Women's Amateur held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, Long Island, New York.
Extracted from the pages of a 1902 Autograph Calendar book recovered from Orange Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, Griscom added the following quote to a page with the printed date of May 20: "It is better to have 'won' and lost than never you have 'won' at all. Frances Canby Griscom / With apologies to Alfred Tennyson."
Measuring approximately 7.75 x 5, this autographed quotation is in overall fine condition, with light toning and a rough left edge from extraction.
