Kate Sara Chittenden (April 17, 1856 – September 16, 1949), Canadian music educator, authentic, autographed vintage handwritten quotation (AQS), 7.75 x 5. A student of famed piano virtuoso, Clara Schumann, Chittenden was an innovator in her own right, originating the synthetic piano method. She was a founding dean of the American Institute of Applied Music in New York City, after which she led the piano department at Vassar College for 31 years, until her retirement.
Extracted from the pages of a 1902 Autograph Calendar book recovered from Orange Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, Chittendon added the following quote to a page with the printed date of February 24: "'All truth must be brought, in order to be effective, through a personal medium. It is the personal power that is mightiest in the world. It is not merely a difference between different orders of minds, that the higher are moved by abstract truth, while the lower, the great mass of mankind, are open only to the more palpable touch of personal power. All men are influenced mostly by embodied truth, by truth coming to them through some relation of a fellow man.' Kate. S. Chittendon."
In fine condition, with light overall toning and a rough left edge from extraction.
