George Washington

George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799), the first President of the United States of America, remarkable, museum quality framed archived, featuring an authentic full "George Washington" signature as well as two remarkable relics including a grouping of nearly half a dozen strands of his actual hair and a half inch sized clipped piece of fabric from a cloak well documented as having been owned by Washington.

The framed display, using museum quality archival materials measures 15x15 inches in size and also includes a reproduction of a Gilbert Stuart portrait of the President. The signature, clipped from an original indenture document from large March 17, 1769 indenture is signed in full with a scarce "George Washington" as he commonly only signed "G. Washington." A color, full scale reproduction of the original land lease document, outlining the exact section used for this "cut" signature is included with the lot.

Full provenance is also included for the hair strands and piece of Washington's cloak in an 8 page document with original chain of transaction sales records. The hair strands originate from the Custis-Powell family as documented by renowned autograph and hand writing specialist Charles Hamilton. A reproduction of the original Charles Hamilton authentication letter for the original lock of hair is included which displays the original envelope with hand written message the lock of hair was discovered in. The swatch of fabric, from a larger piece of Washington's cloak comes with proper documentation relating to Colonel Tobias Lear's ownership of the piece. Lear was Washington's personal secretary and one of his best friends. Overall this archive represents the life of our very first president and is a must have highlight for any historically significant collection.
