John Hancock

John Hancock (January 23, 1737 [O.S. January 12, 1736] – October 8, 1793), partly-printed, signed document (DS) appointing James Endicott of Stoughton "to be one of the Justices to keep the Peace in the County of Suffolk." This one page document, approximately 8 x 12.75  inches, is dated "February 11, 1785."

Hancock was a merchant, statesman, and prominent Patriot of the American Revolution. He served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is remembered for his large and stylish signature on the United States Declaration of Independence, so much so that the term "John Hancock" has become, in the United States, a synonym for signature. 

Signed at the bottom by Hancock and countersigned by secretary John Avery, and also signed a second time, “John Hancock, Esq.”

This document is in very good condition, Document has been professionally backed and is in very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single stroke of signature, show-through from docketing on reverse, repaired paper loss along top edge, and scattered toning. The paper seal is toned and worn, but intact. Hancock’s signature is bold and visually appealing. Housed in a display ready frame alongside a engraved portrait to a finish size of 30.5 x 25.
