Thomas Nast (September 27, 1840 – December 7, 1902), German-born American caricaturist and editorial cartoonist, authentic vintage full-length albumen mounted photograph. Considered to be the "Father of the American Cartoon," Nast's more notable works included the modern version of Santa Claus and the political symbol of the elephant for the Republican Party. He was associated with Harper's Weekly magazine from 1859 to 1860 and from 1862 until 1886. As a result of his impressive Civil War battlefield "pictures with ideas," President Lincoln declared, "Thomas Nast has been our best recruiting sergeant."
Measuring approximately 4.25 x 5.25, this vintage photograph is in overall fine condition, with a minor bend to the bottom left corner, a small pinhole to the top right and some light toning.
