Benjamin West Kilburn (December 10, 1827 – January 15, 1909), American photographer and a member of New Hampshire legislature, stereoview photograph card of Stratford-on-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. Renown for his early landscape images of North American national landmarks, Kilburn became a visual historian as he captured the great immigrations and beginnings of international tourism at the turn of the century. He also patented the Kilburn Gun Camera, which utilized chemicals for ammunition instead of powder and lead.
Print beneath image identifies the scene: "Here rests the Immortal Shakespeare, Stratford-on-Avon, England." Print on verso reads, "Photographed and Published by B. W. Kilburn - - - Littleton, N. H."
Measuring approximately 7 x 3.5 and mounted on beige cardstock, this stereoview photograph card is in fine condition, with the expected light wear.
