Jean-Charles Pichegru (16 February 1761 - 5 APril 1804), French general of the Revolutionary Wars, authentic, autographed document (DS). This one page letter measures approximately 5" x 8" in size and is dated July 13, 1799. The letter is attached to a larger sheet of paper.

This collection also includes an impressive engraved print of Pichegru. The print is approximately 5" x 8" in size and in good to very good condition. There is a printed signature of Pichegru on the print. It is attached to a larger, irregular shaped piece of paper.

Pichegru was a distinguished French general during the Revolutionary Wars. Under his command, French troops overran Belgium and the Netherlands before fighting on the Rhine front. During this campaign he had much success, highlighted by the capture of the Dutch fleet in Den Helder.

Along the Northern Front, and after the arrest of General Hoche in 1793, Pichegru became commander-in-chief of the army of the Rhine-and-Moselle.

Pichegru planned a coup d'etat known as the Coup of 18 Fructidor. However, he was arrested along with fourteen others and deported. he escaped this imprisonment and later planned to lead an uprising against Napoleon Bonaparte. Pichegru was betrayed by a friend, arrested, and found stragled to death in prison.

This untranslated, one page letter is crisply signed by Pichegru. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are some expected fold lines on the letter.
