Anne Louise Germain de Stael-Holstein

Anne Louise Germaine, often referred to as Madame de Stael (22 April 1766 - 14 July 1817), French political figure, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This one page letter measures approximately 4" x 6" in size and is undated.

The letter is attached to a larger piece of paper approximately 7" x 11" in size. There is an address lead on the reverse of the letter.

The letter is written in the third person with Germaine's name appearing in the first line. It is addressed to a deputy, Andre Dumont. 

Germaine was a French speaking female Swiss author of living in Paris and abroad. She is well known for often engaging in a battle of the wits with Napoleon Bonaparte. As a result of these actions, she was ordered to not reside within 40 leagues (120 miles) of Paris. She would later move and reside in Germany. Her writings, both critical and fictional, made their mark on the history of European Romanticism. 

This is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains some light soiling.
