Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic, autographed vintage handwritten letter (ALS), dated in black ballpoint September 16, 1992, a detail added by Hicks. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."
This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. The way to Hepburn's heart was always through chocolate, something that Hicks knew all too well. Here, the actress expresses jovial thanks after the most recent delivery: "Your instinct is perfect. I saw the box - I said 'Alice?' to Norah - Norah nodded - I opened it...Yum & Yum & Yum - Just what I wanted."
Written on yellow lined paper, the letter measures approximately 8.5 x 13 inches in size, and is penned and signed at the conclusion in black ink, "Can't I do something for you? Affection, K." Letter bears three horizontal and two vertical mailing folds. Accompanied by the original handwritten mailing envelope, postmarked September 17, 1992.
