Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (14 December 1824 - 24 October 1898), French Painter, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This one page letter measures approximately 4" x 6" in size and is dated April 5, 1888.
Puvis was a popular French painter who was known for his murals. He was President and co-founder of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His work influenced many others. It was during the early stages of the 3rd Republic in which his influence reached a maximum height.
This letter is addressed to a Mr. Jean Charles Cazin, a French landscape artist. In the letter, Puvis states "I have searched my memory but i find nothing for this particular exhibition."
This letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Puvis. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains one expected fold line.
