Roy Emerson Stryker (November 5, 1893 - September 27, 1975), American economist, government official, and photographer, authentic, autographed handwritten letter (ALS), one page, dated February 26, 1966. Stryker launched the documentary photography movement of the Farm Security Administration (FSA), making sure that mainstream publications had access to FSA photographs. This both helped focus public attention on the plight of the rural poor and set up the commercial careers of his photographers, which included Dorothea Lange, Arthur Rothstein, Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, John Vachon, Marion Post Wolcott, Russell Lee, Jack Delano, Gordon Parks, John Collier Jr, Carl Mydans, and Edwin and Louise Rosskam.
On personal stationery, Stryker writes to "Edna," in part: "I am sure that I am indebted to you for two copies of the Jan.-Feb. 1966 Issue of Photographic Product News which I just recently received...And now may I tell you what a beautiful tribute you penned to Dorothea Lange. It was such a nice piece of writing...," signed "Roy."
Measuring approximately 7.25 x 10.5, this letter is in fine condition.
