Quarter-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, vintage case, 3.25 x 4.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.

Featured here is a striking 19th century portrait of two young boys, one with his hand perched on the other's shoulder. Both are clad in button-down jackets and ties, each with a hand fastened into his respective coat. Image is bordered by a gold frame and the interior of the front cover is lined in floral-emblazoned red velvet. Although the case is separated at the hinge, parts of the original closure clasp still remain.

In very good condition, with a separation at the hinge, scattered spotting to the glass and gold frame, and the expected wear to the case.
