Lucile Webster Gleason aka "Lucille Gleason" (February 6, 1888 — May 18, 1947), American stage and screen actress, vintage 8 x 10 double-weight photograph credited Roman Freulich / Universal Pictures Corp. Dated with stamping, 1929.
Gleason was also a civic worker who was active in film colony projects. Her motion picture career started with a number of movies in 1929 and continued until 1945. She became the wife of actor James Gleason in 1905, when the couple married in Oakland, California. She took his surname as her professional and legal surname. The couple realized stage success in New York City in a production of 'The Shannons of Broadway.'
Roman Freulich (1924 – 1974) was born in Poland and at age 14 immigrated to the United States to join his brothers. Freulich trained with New York photographer Samuel Lumiere. In the mid-1920s Freulich moved to Hollywood, where his brother Jack was a portrait photographer at Universal Pictures. Roman Freulich became a still photographer at Universal, shooting many of their major stars. He remained at Universal until 1944 when he was offered a position at Republic Studios as head of its still department. In the late 1950s, after Republic ceased production, Freulich freelanced, mostly for United Artists, until the mid-1960s.
Verso bears handwritten ID, publicity snipe and credit stampings. In very good condition with a chipped top left hand corner.
