Ulysses S. Grant (April 27, 1822 - July 23, 1885) 18th President of the United States and Union Army commanding general in the American Civil War, Mathew Brady 8 x 10" photograph, printed from original Brady negative, later printed in mid 1900s (circa 1970s-80s). Under Grant, the Union military defeated the Confederacy, ending the War and the secession of the Southern states with the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox. Grant's presidency was notable for the role it had in stabilizing the nation during the turbulent Reconstruction period following the War.
This exceptionally clear image of General Grant, seated, is printed from the original Brady negativs, later printing ( circa 1970s-80s). Printed on double weight matte finish paper with handwritten identifaction on verso.
Photograph is in good condition, with a touch of wear to the edges and a larger crease in the lower black border.
