Sixth-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, vintage case, 2.75 x 3.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.

Featured here is a 19th century portrait of two older women in bonnets and period dresses, arm in arm, bordered by a gold frame. Housed in a vintage case boasting a simple embellished design, the front interior cover of the case features red satin lining. Case remains intact at the hinge and bears the original closure latch.

In very good condition, with the expected wear to the case, scattered spotting around the gold frame and a darkened outline around parts of the image.
