Jean-Baptiste Jourdan (29 April 1762 - 23 November 1833), French Revolutionary War Commander, authentic, autographed letter (LS). This two page letter is dated May 20, 1812 and measures approximately 7" x 11" in size.

Jourdan enlisted as a Private in the French Royal Army and rose to command armies during the French Revolutionary Wars. One of the highlights of his career was being appointed a Marshal of France by Emperor Napoleon I in 1804. He also fought in the American Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Jourdan is considered to be one of the most successsful commanders of the French Revolutionary Army. 

Jourdan also represented French interests in the Cisalpine Republic and served as a military advisor while in Italy. 

Upon Napoleon's Hundred Days during his return from exile, Jourdan rejoined the former Emperor before submitting to the Bourbons's after the defeat at Waterloo.  

This two page, untranslated letter is crisply signed by Jourdan at the conclusion. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are some scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
