Frances Farmer (September 19, 1913 – August 1, 1970), American actress, matte-finish, black and white original vintage candid photograph, 3.5 x 3.5, likely unpublished. Both famed and infamous, Frances Farmer's legacy focuses just as much, if not more, on the harrowing movie that was her life. Her arrests, violent outbursts and time spent at Western State Hospital in Washington paint a lurid picture of her emotional and psychological struggles. Through it all, Farmer managed to star in over 20 combined films and television shows, solidifying her impact on Hollywood as well as the developing world of psychiatry, which suffered scrutiny due to Farmer's vicious accounts of treatments employed by the institutions where she was treated.
Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain, expressed his empathy for Farmer in “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle,” a track from 1993s “In Utero.” Each tortured by the fame they both worked for and abhorred, they led famously tragic lives, leaving a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten.
In fine condition.
